Separate to The NELUNE Centre is Wellness Centre – a retreat that patients may choose to go to that is integrated with their conventional cancer care. The Wellness Centre’s design provides a comfortable environment for cancer patients to access the latest information and advice and evidence-based complementary healthcare to help alleviate stress, relieve symptoms and reduce pain and anxiety, in order to promote general physical and mental wellbeing as part of an integrated medicine approach.

At the Wellness Centre evidence-based and non-invasive complementary therapies are offered by highly experienced therapists as an adjunct to conventional medicine, where there is open communication between all care providers and the patient; an environment where patient choice and quality of life is paramount.

The Wellness Centre forms part of the Cancer Centre’s integrative medicine approach which addresses the biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of health and illness, with due respect for the human capacity for healing and the importance of the relationship between the practitioner and the patient.

Wellness Centre offers patient individual treatments and group programming to include Meditation and Mindfulness, Art Therapy and ENRICH Healthy Lifestyle program.

Wellness Centre is open Monday – Thursday 8.00am – 5.00pm and is located on the ground level of The Kinghorn Centre.

HICAPS and Medicare on the spot rebate may apply to services. Gift certificates for individual treatments are available for purchase.

Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology has been shown to be helpful at relieving symptoms of fatigue, nausea and pain and to improve quality of life. Exercise Physiology is effective and safe for you during and post cancer treatment into survivorship. Sessions focus on regaining strength and conditioning, boosting immune function, protecting bone density and maintaining muscle mass.

Accredited Exercise Physiology treatments may assist to;

  • Improve management of fatigue, pain and nausea
  • Enhance capacity to cope better with treatment and higher chance of completing treatment cycles
  • Improve mental health and decrease depression and anxiety
  • Maintain aerobic fitness and manage shortness of breath when exercising or during daily activities
  • Improve immunity

Kimberley Au

Kimberley is an Accredited Exercise Physiology with exercise and Sport Science Australia. She is passionate about empowering clients to optimise their health through individualised exercise prescription and health education. Kimberley was the founder of Clinic 88 and Canberra’s first cancer exercise program. Kimberley has extensive experience in treating s number of conditions including cancer, pre and post-surgical interventions, musculoskeletal injuries, occupational injuries and back pain.

Anna Louise Moule

Anna is an Accredited Exercise Physiology and the founder of Balanced Bodies Lifestyle clinic. She is passionate about a holistic multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare.

Anna’s programs have a strong focus on evidence based practice and incorporates the latest guidelines and research into exercise programming with patients.. Anna’s areas of expertise include exercise presentation for chronic and complex health conditions exercise oncology, men’s health, lower back pain, injury, rehabilitation, pre and post natal exercise programming.

Anna facilitates our free patient Wellbeing program ENRICH.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe and effective therapy to manage cancer related symptoms. It works by regulating the function of the human body and enhancing the immune system to minimise side effects and improve quality of life.

Treatments will be tailored to take account of your needs as they change throughout your cancer care, including pre and post care.

Acupuncture has demonstrated to be effective in:

  • Prevention and management of nausea and vomiting
  • Regulation of immune function and reducing inflammation
  • Reducing stress, depression and anxiety and improving psychological well-being.
  • Decreasing hot flushed, fatigue and pain
  • Reducing radiation induced dry mouth

Susan Gallagher

BHlthSc (TCM), Dip. AC.

Susan has a wealth of international experience and has worked most recently in Sydney as part of the Radiation Oncology department at the Royal North Shore Hospital. Much of Susan’s experience is in the area of oncology acupuncture as both practitioner and researcher.

Daniel Spigelman

Bachelor Chinee medicine (Beijing University of Chinese Medicine)

Daniel brings over 10 years’ experience as an acupuncturist to Wellness Centre team. Daniel offers treatments tailored to the specific needs and conditions of the patient which can assist in many facets of their experience with cancer such as musculoskeletal pain, anxiety, digestive complaints, and depression, insomnia, fatigue, lymphedema and fertility issues.

Oncology Massage

Oncology Massage is a gentle and nurturing treatment that takes into consideration the physical and emotional changes that occur in the body after a cancer diagnosis. The practice is modified to be safe during any part of the cancer experience and is particularly helpful if you are experiencing pain, anxiety, fatigue, depression or nausea.

Simone Peppitt

Simone Peppitt is a specialised oncology massage therapist who brings extensive experience in oncology and palliative massage to Wellness Centre team. Simone’s 9 + year career in private massage practice spans a broad scope of complementary medicine and continuing post graduate study in naturopathy, TCM and Lymphatic drainage has ensured her practice is integrated and holistic through all stages of a cancer experience.

Aruna Ellis

Aruna has an extensive nursing background and is the founder of Massage in Care, bringing more than 15 years’ experience in specialised Oncology Massage to the Wellness Centre team. Aruna is a lymphedema therapist, oncology massage therapist and certified Paediatric massage therapist specialising in touch therapy for children with cancer and chronic illness. Arunas practice encompasses breathing techniques and mindfulness which in addition to the nefits of her nurturing massage, assists patients to rebduild hope, establish and positive body image and feel whole again.

Physiotherapy & Lymphoedema treatment

Orsi Kokai

Orsi brings over 15 years Physiotherapy experience to the Wellness Centre team. Regarded as a leader in her field, Orsi is the founder of Eastern Suburbs Lymphoedema services, a specialised oncology physiotherapy practice, with individual treatments to assist recovery post-surgery, prevent long term musculoskeletal side effects and optimise physical health. Physiotherapy and Lympoedema treatment focuses on early identification and management of physical and functional impairments during and after cancer care.
