Dr Andrew Yam

Medical Oncologist
BSc (Hons), MBBS (Hons), FRACP, PhD

Dr Andrew Yam is a Medical Oncologist clinician at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, specialising in genitourinary and gastrointestinal cancers. He works in a multidisciplinary team to take a personal and holistic approach to patient care. Dr Yam is an investigator of clinical trials and values their importance in improving patients' cancer treatment.

In addition to patient care, Dr Yam also holds appointments as a clinician-scientist at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and the University of New South Wales. Dr Yam completed his PhD investigating how an immune response against bacterial infections can be directed to fight cancers and enhance current immunotherapies. He hopes this work will improve patient outcomes and direct future therapies. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. He has been awarded the Phil Salter Immuno-Oncology Fellowship, the Estée Lauder Breast Cancer Research Award and the Australasian Society of Immunology Career Development Award.

He was awarded the University of New South Wales Triple-I seed funding as the primary investigator, and he has also received funding from the National Breast Cancer Foundation and PanKind Pancreatic Cancer Research Foundation.

Dr Yam also mentors the next generation of cancer clinicians and researchers, supervises research students, and serves on committees advocating for early- and mid-career researchers.
